MY INSPIRATION
The inspiration I get comes from everywhere. From visiting museums, walking around in cities, reading magazines and books, going to the theatre or listing to inspiring lectures. In this part of my portfolio I will display some of the things that have most inspired me.
SUZANNE LEE
SUZANNE LEE
During the inspiration book we visited many inspirational lectures. One that really stood out for me was the one about materials. She told us about incredible innovative ideas that are created in fashion.
For example one about Suzanne Lee. Suzanne Lee creates her own fabrics by growing bacteria. An innovative idea that helps the fashion industry to became more sustainable. Below you see the beginning of an article about Suzanne Lee I put in my inspiration book.

FoA ACADEMY
Twice a year First of August organises an evening full of inspiring lectures and discussions. Speakers are given a platform to display their findings on an innovative fashion topic. This fall I attended this inspiring night and saw two lectures. One about the Adidas slipper by marguerite van den Berg and one about techno fashion by Lianne Toussaint. Marguerite used the Adidas slipper as way to look at society what we find appropriate to wear during our jobs. She showed how confusing these norms are and why certain clothes are acceptable and certain are not. An lecture that was told in the most inspiring way full of humour. Lianne Toussaint spoke about the increase of techno fashion. She showed several amazing ideas that were created in the past year and how many possibilities techno fashion has. Because of technology we can create of relationship with our clothing on a level we have never seen before. A jacket that can charge our phone or show our emotions. An amazing lecture!
Production in Florence
In fall 2016 the whole second year management department visited the clothing industry in Italy. We travelled from Florence to different production companies to get informed about how clothing is made. This trip inspired me because after learning everything about the production of apparel, we finally got to see how everything worked in practise. Huge factories with thousands of machines where the glamour of fashion is far away. We got to see how jeans fabric is made and how the jeans are actually customized and all in the most sustainable way possible. A trip to never forget.

Amsterdam denim days
In April I went to the Amsterdam denim days. An event, held in the Westergasfabriek, that shows everything related to denim industry. Inspiring seminars , little shops of denim brands and young denim innovators. The denim industry has an incredible relaxed atmosphere and is an industry with many opportunities. A lecture that inspired me the most was from the denim company Nudi jeans. A sustainable denim brand that works with 100 % organic cotton. What stayed with me about this lecture was that Nudi jeans didn’t see other sustainable denim companies as a competitor. They encouraged other companies to help each other making the fashion industry more sustainable. An industry that attracts me a lot
Workshop by Marieke Eyskoot
Sustainability is a popular topic in the fashion industry. It is a theme of conversation that needs to be discussed. During my AMFI career I realized the importance of sustainability and honesty in the fashion industry. A movie that attracts the attention to these problems is the ‘True cost’. An
incredible documentary that really inspired me to think about these issues and to think about solutions.
So I wanted to know even more about this subject and I went to the workshop of Marieke Eyskoot about sustainable fashion. A great inspirational lecture about how fast fashion is changing our fashion system and how polluting fashion can be.

Dutch design week
A week full of inspiration is the Dutch design week. This week offers a platform to all sorts of designers. A week full of innovative ideas, answers and solutions and many experiments. One thing that stood out for me was the graduation show of the design academy. They showed all kinds of designs and had the most incredible solutions for the most simple .problems
Adventurous in cities
Walking around cities gives you so much inspiration. From street art on walls to hidden spaces or huge colossal buildings. I try to capture this with my camera.

Dance and theatre
Ever since I was young dance and theatre were great passions of me. The great stories they tell and the emotion they bring to the stage really inspires me.
